Tag, the flagship restaurant for one of Denver’s more prominent hospitality groups, closes on May 15 after 12 years serving diners on Larimer Square.

Chef and owner Troy Guard on Wednesday announced the closure of his original restaurant over social media channels. Guard also owns Denver-based Los Chingones, Guard and Grace, Hashtag, Bubu, FnG, Big Wave and Tag Burger Bar. He’s also planning to open a food hall, Grange Hall, this summer in the Denver Tech Center.

Since opening Tag more than a decade ago, Guard’s subsequent restaurants expanded to include a modern steakhouse, a breakfast spot, two neighborhood pubs, an Asian-fusion counter and two taco concepts.

“Without Tag, I might not have gone on to open any of our other great restaurants,” Guard wrote in his closing announcement. “Without Tag I may not have met my wife and had my boys, (and) without Tag I wouldn’t have met all of the wonderful people that I now call friends.”
